Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism is shortly to be implemented by the EU.  The mechanism will effectively place an duty (carbon tax) on some materials which are imported to the EU which have a higher production Carbon Footprint than benchmarks set in the EU.

The setting of the benchmark and level of payment are under concideration and will be related to production techniques adopted in the EU.

It is very clear that if members want to continue to trade with the EU, then they will need to really understand, and be able to validate, their carbon footprint and to ensure that it is as low as possible.

The NFA has a excellent undertsnading of the CBAM proposals and monitors how these will affect our Members.  If you would like to join our Energy and Climate Change Group, please contact us via the website.
